Incoming Passenger Card (IPC) for Travelers to Australia
What is an Incoming Passenger Card (IPC)?
Definition
An Incoming Passenger Card (IPC) is a form that must be completed by all passengers entering Australia. The IPC collects information about the traveler, their travel plans, and any goods they are bringing into the country.
Purpose
The IPC is used by Australian Border Force (ABF) officers to assess the risk of quarantine and biosecurity threats posed by incoming passengers. The information collected on the IPC helps ABF officers to identify passengers who may need to be further screened or undergo quarantine procedures.
Where to Obtain an IPC
Onboard Transportation
IPCs are typically provided to travelers on board their flight or ship before arrival in Australia. If you do not receive an IPC on board, you can obtain one from an ABF officer upon arrival.
How to Complete an IPC
Language
The IPC must be completed in English using a blue or black pen.
Completeness
It is important to answer all questions on the IPC fully and accurately. If you are unsure about how to answer a question, please leave it blank and an ABF officer will assist you upon arrival.
Accuracy
Providing false or misleading information on the IPC is a serious offense and may result in penalties.
What Happens After Completing the IPC
Submission
Once you have completed the IPC, you must submit it to an ABF officer upon arrival in Australia.
Assessment
ABF officers will assess the information on the IPC to determine if you pose a quarantine or biosecurity risk. If you are deemed to be a low risk, you will be allowed to enter Australia without further screening.
Further Screening
If ABF officers determine that you may pose a quarantine or biosecurity risk, you may be required to undergo further screening, such as a physical examination or baggage inspection.
Additional Information
Valid Visas
If you are not an Australian citizen, you must hold a valid visa to enter Australia. You can check if you need a visa by visiting the Department of Home Affairs website.
Quarantine Rules
Australia has strict quarantine rules to protect against the introduction of pests and diseases. You must declare all food, plant material, and animal products on your IPC.
Penalties
Failure to complete the IPC correctly or providing false or misleading information can result in penalties, including fines and imprisonment.
